About 1800 years ago, the king Karikala of the Early Chola dynasty saw a mighty river that came gushing from the forests. At the same time, the agricultural land of Cholamandalam, or the Kaveri delta region, saw inclement weather conditions. Having to depend only on the rains for irrigation, the farmers had a choice between extreme drought or extreme flooding of the Cauvery. At Kavarapattu, the Kollidam River makes one final curve to end its meandering journey.

After discovering what I wanted to do and why I wanted to do it, then what to and what not to do, I started focusing on how to do it. From 2015 to mid-2017, PFF was a program for Discover SUP. Lots of RnD was going on to figure out all the logistics. If today an expedition can be planned and executed almost flawlessly, it is because of all the planning, grinding, and actually getting our hands dirty back then.

The 2015 floods showed us the mirror of what an ecological disaster we were. Once I learnt Stand-Up Paddling in 2014, I started exploring the lakes of Chennai and today, parts of whatever I saw do not exist anymore. And that’s how I began by discovery of lakes in and around the city.
